Our Yellowstone experience is extensive - in fact, Charissa grew up in Yellowstone where her father was the resident minister.  15 years ago, her Alabama husband brought her back to the area after adventures in many other western national parks.  Tim now works as a ranger in Yellowstone National Park and Charissa works part-time as the park's oral historian.  Our three daughters were raised in the park (one born at Old Faithful, Canyon and Mammoth Hot Springs) and we all continue to find the park a source of endless fascination.   The good news is - we are more than willing to share our passion for and knowledge of Yellowstone with you!  Just ask!

This is the official website of Yellowstone National Park.  Packed with trip planning advice, the latest news, and lot of educational information (including some great podcasts!) this is the best place to start when visiting Yellowstone.

This site features information about research that is being done in the Greater Yellowstone Area.  Great for in-depth information, this site is still under development, but worth a visit.

Offering day long private tours for individuals and groups as well as more lengthy classes in the park, we can't say enough about the high quality of their offerings.  This non-profit organization has been supporting the conservation of Yellowstone National Park since 1933 and offers a variety of books and educational materials about the park.  We encourage you to join their ranks!

The Yellowstone Park Foundation is the official fundraising partner of Yellowstone National Park. They work in cooperation with the National Park Service to fund projects and programs that protect, preserve, and enhance the natural and cultural resources and the visitor experience of Yellowstone National Park.  The Ranger Fund is our favorite initiative!

Charissa is the author of "Yellowstone Expedition Guide" by Travelbrains, winner of the 2006 National Outdoor Book Award.  Bring your copy along and she'll be glad to sign it.

Planning...
Take the time to plan ahead and manage expectations and you'll find your trip much more enjoyable.  Here's a short list of our best advice about visiting Yellowstone.

1.  Allow plenty of time to get where you are going.
(The average speed limit in the park is less than 45 mph.)

2.  Don't try to see everything.  See what you have time for WELL.

3.  Plan to spend most of your time in the PARK rather than in the CAR.

4.  Attend a ranger program at least once during your visit to the park.  Did you know that only a small portion of visitors take advantage of these free offerings?  Join the elite ranks of visitors in the know!

5.  Don't depend on your cell phone or other technology here in the Wild West!  Many cell phones don't work with our limited coverage and internet access is, at times, hard to come by.

6.  S L O W down.  The pace of life here is pretty laid back and nothing happens very quickly.  Enjoy it if you can!
